Tomorrows Champions

Lakeside Youth Academy is a race league started to allow drivers below the age of 16 the chance to try their hand at kart racing. We have already seen many drivers progress to higher levels of racing with some of them being very successful.

The Youth Academy Racing Season consists of 13 weeks karting. The first week of the season is a practice session. It is a chance for all drivers to hone their skills before the new championship starts. It is also used as an induction session for all new members and includes basic training and the presentation for previous season.

Each race meeting consists of a 10 minute practice followed by three 10 minute heats for each driver. The grid set-up for each heat is formed from the championship order, therefore Group 1 consists of the odd number positions – 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. and group 2 the even numbers – 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. This ensures each group is evenly balanced.

At the end of each meeting there will be a podium presentation. A personal lap-time report displaying their top speed, best lap, classification in the heat, and also a graph showing improvement or consistency in their driving (this is used to help drivers monitor their progress and success throughout the season) is available upon request. The winner of each race meet category (cadet/senior) will receive a medal and all driver positions will be scored on a points system and then placed into the league table. The league table is updated every week and can be found in the reception area and the changing rooms. It is also now available for viewing on our website.

Drivers will battle it out over a challenging 10 weeks and only after this will we really be able to determine who is the best!

Point System

Race Points

The point system for the championship will work as follows:

The winner of each heat will receive 10 points,  2nd place will receive 9 points,  3rd place 8 points etc. After all the heats have finish each drivers points are tallied up and then penalty points deducted. The total points received by each driver will be placed into the league table. At the end of the season there will be a Youth Academy Winner, Senior Winner and an overall winner of the championship.
